Great 2014-2015 Year

A letter from John Forsythe:

“As we close the curtain on our 2014-2015 season, the Granite City Folk Society would like to thank you for your support—whether it be as a patron, a donor, a volunteer or merely as someone who is interested enough to stay in touch with what we are doing. What we are doing is presenting 35-40 shows each season in an intimate listening room atmosphere—the newly expanded BoDiddley’s Deli on 25th Ave. in St. Cloud. We occasionally bring in some very big names such as we have this past year with David Bromberg and Judy Collins (renting Pioneer Place and Paramount Theaters respectively to do so) but our bread and butter is presenting incredibly intimate cabaret style concerts at BoDiddley’s. Even though Bo’s seats only 50 we have coerced the likes of Bill Staines, John Gorka and Cheryl Wheeler to play the venue this year to sold out houses—and they have each loved the gig.

We are already booking for our 2015-16 season and hope to bring in a couple more big names, which may well be presented at Unity Spiritual Center in Sartell. Unity is a very comfortable space in a beautiful setting with ample parking and with availability not offered by the two theaters. Seating is 250, a size that is not offered elsewhere locally.

But of course, having a venue is one thing—drawing an audience that will allow us to afford the bigger names is another. We welcome any suggestions you may have as to who you would like to see us try to bring to town. And, of course, if anyone is interested in co-sponsoring a show featuring a particular artist, we would welcome that partnership.

Thank you again for your support of the Granite City Folk Society. We on the GCFS Board are passionate about sustaining the various strains of acoustic music and musicians broadly lumped under the ‘folk’ umbrella—-and we appreciate all of you who help make this possible.”
