Laurie McClain
$14 ticket
Sat. Oct. 26th 2013 7:30pm at Bo Diddley’s Downtown St. Cloud
Laurie McClain’s music reflects the places she has lived: southern California, Nebraska, and Nashville have all left their marks. Her roots are in the folk and country artists from the 1960s onward–Leonard Cohen, John Prine, Merle Haggard, Joni Mitchell, and Kate Wolf. Puremusic.com says of Laurie’s 2003 CD “The Trumpet Vine: A Tribute to Kate Wolf,” “It’s a fantastic job, and we think it will itself become a folk classic, it’s that good.” Steve Forbert calls her latest collection of original material, “Ascend,” “best thing I’ve heard in a long while.”
“Laurie’s music is as innocent as it is informed by experience, as playful as it is rooted, and as detail-oriented as it is grand in scope.”–Devon Sproule
“Her songs, while optimistic in tone, are laced with a healthy dose of realism.”–Bill Graham, FOLKWAX Ezine
“I found every trill and grace note in McClain’s delivery chill-inducing.”–David Kleiner, Minor7th.com
“What good folk music should be: earthy, truthful, heartfelt . . . Laurie shows listeners her naturally sweetened voice and delightful sense of humor.”–Rainbow Rowell, Daily Nebraskan
